Incubating Green Tree Python Eggs
One interesting thing about Morelia viridis is the fact that the female will coil around her eggs so as to protect them and even control the temperature and humidity during the incubation period. For most snake breeders the question of how to incubate the eggs involves no more than deciding what variety of incubator to purchase or construct. With a select few species, the green tree python included, there is added the preliminary question of should I let the mother care for her own eggs or take them away and incubate them artificially? This is a question that every chondro breeder must answer (preferably ahead of time) and also the subject of a fair deal of debate. Although I will not firmly attempt to answer this question for you, I will do my best to provide the pros and cons of each method so you can make your own informed decision.
Maternal Incubation:
Maternal incubation, leaving the mother to tend to her eggs with little or no intervention, is the more "natural" choice for incubating your green tree python eggs and does have some advantages.
Artificial Incubation:
With artificial incubation of green tree python eggs you have a much greater degree of control over the conditions in which the eggs are kept. It does not take an engineer to figure out that temperature and humidity can be much more precisely controlled in a purpose built state of the art incubator than in a nest box located in the femal pythons cage.
