Natural History of the Green Tree Python
General Information
Morelia viridis (the green tree python) is found in the rainforests, bushes, and shrubs of Indonesia, northern Australia, and Papua New Guinea. They are almost exclusively arboreal, but are occasionally found on the ground. Although they are variable in markings and coloration, particularly from one geographic location to the next, they can generally be described as being primarily green in color with white, yellow, or blue markings along the back and/or sides in some specimens.
The green tree python is primarily a nocturnal species and is rarely acvtive during the daylight hours. They are relatively small by python standards with an average adult length of only about 3 to 4 feet (approximately 1 meter).
