Handling Your Green Tree Python
Seperating Fact from Fiction
As with most species of reptiles, most of what the general public "knows" about green tree pythons is far from accurate and more likely to be based on fear or confusion with other species. When it comes to green tree pythons the most common thing that people "know" about them is that they are, without exception, extremely aggressive and sure to sink their 1/2" long teeth into any unlucky individual foolish enough to get within striking range.
Of course, like most things you hear about snakes, this is quite an exaggeration. While it is true that some specimens of Morelia viridis can be very unpredictable or even downright snappy, to categorically attribute this to the entire species is ludicrous at best. Just as some individuals are almost sure to bite you others can be very docile and handled with ease.
