Designer Green Tree Pythons
Designer types in general:
Green tree python breeders, much like the breeders of other reptiles (or any animal for that matter) often have either a love of the unusual or a certain characteristic which they find appealing in the species. Through the process of selective breeding, often an arduous task when genetics are uncertain, specific traits are manipulated to be more pronounced resulting in "designer" animals. Since many of the traits (usually coloration variations) either do not occur or occur only withh extreme rarity in wild populations, there are some who do not agree with the practice. Whether you agree with it or not, selectively breeding green tree pythons to produce "high end designer animals" is a reality that is here to stay.
In all fairness, anyone who loves the species and desires to see conservation become a more widespread goal of society in general should embrace selective breeding for designer animals. Although it produces animals which vary from their wild counterparts (at least cosmetically), it does much to promote awareness of the species and, in turn, to promote conservation of the species and their habitat in the wild. Without education there can be no conservation and, particularly with animals getting a bad rap to start with, any positive awareness is a step min the right direction. All I ask is that, if you are not for designer animals, is that you realize the potential good which can come of it for the species as a whole.
With that out of the way, lets take a look at some of the more popular designer morphs of Morelia viridis, the green tree python
